zankovetska lohoOstróda County's cooperation with the Maria Zankovetska Theatre in Lviv began with organising an international football match between local government representatives from Warmia and Masuria and Ukrainian artists. The Ukrainian team was largely composed of actors and employees of the Maria Zankovetska Theatre. The match was held on September 16, 2011, as part of the international promotion of the County, and the reasons to play were double: anticipation of UEFA European Football Championship EURO 2012, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine and promotion of a new football stadium in Ostróda, which aspired to become one of the reception centres for national teams during Euro 2012. This event made it possible to establish friendly relations with the Theatre from in Lviv, which two years later resulted in a joint initiative to organize a charity tour of the artistic ensemble through Warmia and Masuria. The Theatre performed four plays: "Kateryna", "Only in Lviv – Bum pim pim" and "Parables about Ivan". Performances took place on May 10-12, 2014 at the Alexander Sewruk Theatre in Elbląg, the Ostróda amphitheatre and the Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Olsztyn. Total income of the tour was dedicated to helping children from the families of victims of the events on Kiev's Maidan and hostilities in Eastern Ukraine. It consisted of organizing summer camps for Ukrainian children in Ostróda County in August of 2014.
