Ostróda County occupies and area of 176,629 ha in the western part of the Warmia-Masuria Province (north-eastern Poland). In terms of area, is is the 17th largest county in Poland and 4th within the Province. From the north, the County borders Elbląg and Lidzbark, from the east – Olsztyn, from the south – Działdowo and Nidzica, and from the west – Sztum and Iława. Geographically, the County is located in the Iława Lake District, the core area of a powerful tourism brand – Western Masuria. Ostróda is located at the intersection of the following routes: Poznań-Olsztyn and Warsaw-Gdańsk (national roads: S7, No. 15 and 16). The County is also conveniently connected by railway. Railway line from Olsztyn to Wrocław, which intersects with the Warsaw-Gdańsk route in the nearby Iława, also passes through Ostróda. The railway from Olsztyn to Elbląg runs through the communes of Małdyty and Morąg.
